Speed blazes to HK G1 victory for Dylan Thomas

Blazing Speed (5g Dylan Thomas-Leukippids, by Sadler’s Wells) starred in the HKG1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup over a mile and a half at Sha Tin on Sunday, to provide more big-race glory for Dylan Thomas. The five-year-old, bred in Britain by Joseph Sankey, was book-ending the Hong Kong Triple Crown series having also won the HKG1 Stewards’ Cup over a mile at the same track in January. Jockey Neil Callan always had Blazing Speed well-positioned, close to the front-runner Bubble Chic, before quickening clear to pass the post two and a half lengths clear of the field in a time of 2m 28.11s. “I had belief in my horse,” said Callan. “I knew the horses that were going to go forward, but most importantly, I didn’t want to have to rev my horse up to get that position, I just wanted to let him fall into a nice rhythm and when he went past the winning post first time, I was just happy that he was relaxed. He put a good gap between them in the straight and he was pretty resolute to the winning line.” Winning trainer Tony Cruz commented: “Neil Callan rode a perfect race today. The horse won it quite easy and I’m very happy with that performance.”
