Fierce Lady (Competitive Edge) winning a MSW at Belmont

TDN Rising Star for Competitive Edge

Opening her account with a dazzling six length victory at Belmont on Saturday was talented filly Fierce Lady (2f Competitive Edge x Anjorie, by AP Jet), who earned TDN Rising Star status for her scintillating performance.

Trained by Dermot Magner, she zoomed over the five furlongs in a slick 56.47 seconds.

A $52,000 KEEJAN short yearling, Fierce Lady was purchased by her trainer for $75,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale. She then RNA’d for $170,000 at OBS March after breezing an eighth in 10 seconds flat.

"We knew she had speed from the way she worked at the sale,” Magner told the TDN. “So once we got her into a routine, got her caught up on her gate work it was really no surprise. She is a quality filly and she's been training the right way the entire time."

The third first crop winner for exciting young sire Competitive Edge, Fierce Lady was bred by Sugar Maple Farm and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Bluegrass Jamboree from stakes-placed Anjorie.
