Trash Talker Winner Number 24 for Competitive Edge
Trash Talker (2c Competitive Edge x Funny Pepper, by Distorted Humor) became the 24th winner for Competitive Edge when winning a Maiden Special Weight at Aqueduct for Nice Guys Stables on Saturday.
Trash Talker went straight to the lead under Joel Rosario as the race favorite. Keeping about a length in front of the field throughout the six furlong contest on dirt, Trash Talker wasn’t about to let go and looked posed to stay in front until the wire. He was briefly challenged in the stretch but he turned that challenge away to extend his lead again to a length at the wire for trainer Dermot Magner.
Bought for $115,000 as a yearling from the Wood's Edge consignment at Keeneland September by Magner, the colt was bred by Joe Allen and Michael C. Stinson.
He is the second foal out of Funny Pepper, a daughter of New Mexico legend and multiple stakes winner Peppers Pride, who won all 19 of her races. Funny Pepper also has a weanling colt by Practical Joke.
Brilliant Grade I winner Competitive Edge has been one of the leading sires of his generation with 24 winners in his first crop this year. Competitive Edge’s first crop is headlined by four stakes winners, including Nice Guys Stables’ own stakes winning filly Fierce Lady.
