US G3 win for Champs Elysees' Colonia
A good week on the racecourse and in the sale ring for Champs Elysees in Europe continued in America on Saturday when Colonia (3f Champs Elysees-Clara Luna-Muhtathir) claimed a G3 success.
The Graham Motion-trained filly came out best in a competitive 13-runner renewal of the G3 Pin Oak Valley View at Keeneland and connections feel there could be better to come.
“I was worried when they went a half in :50. I thought she had a lot to do. She has a tremendous turn of foot. Joe (Bravo) gave her a great ride. He was very patient,” said Motion. “Colonia really hasn’t done much wrong. She got left with a lot to do in California (in the G1 Del Mar Oaks in August), where they really ran away from her early. It was hard to make up that kind of ground. She’s very consistent. I think she’s an improving filly.”
Jockey Joe Bravo added: “She stayed focused all the way throughout. Graham’s always been excited about this horse coming along. That was a pretty nice move to go through everybody, weave her way through. She’s going to be special. I can’t wait to see what she does in the future. Thank you, Graham.”
