Verrazano winning the Haskell

Verrazano to Ashford after Santa Anita

The Todd Pletcher-trained Verrazano, who races for Let’s Go Stable in partnership with the Coolmore team, will have his final start in Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile before retiring to Ashford Stud for the 2014 breeding season. “Verrazano has given us some magical days, none more so than that 9¾ length romp in the Haskell,” said Let’s Go Stable’s Bryan Sullivan. “We’re really looking forward to Friday.”

By far the best son of More Than Ready, Verrazano burst on the scene with an impressive maiden win over 6½ furlongs on his debut at Gulfstream Park last January. He went on to land six of his first seven starts by an average of 7¾ lengths including the G1 Wood Memorial Stakes and the G1 Haskell Invitational Stakes where he recorded a Beyer Speed Figure of 116, the highest of any 3-year-old in 2013 and bettered only by older horse Game On Dude’s 117 in the Santa Anita Handicap.

“Verrazano is a very welcome addition to the roster here at Ashford which will be the strongest we’ve ever assembled,” said Ashford’s Director of Sales Charlie O’Connor. “Verrazano’s brilliance is there for all to see, but he’s also got the pedigree and looks to match. He’s very exciting.”
