War Command Colt Makes It Two From Two

Commander (2c War Command - Dance Toupie) made it two from two when successfully stepping up to seven furlongs in the Prix Memorandum at Maisons-Laffitte on Friday.

The Fabrice Chappet-trained colt made a winning debut over six furlongs at Saint Cloud earlier in the month and was sent off favourite of 11 horses for his second start in the Class 2 contest. Christophe Soumillon positioned the bay in midfield and was travelling with ease when improving into second two furlongs from home. Ridden to challenge, he led in the final furlong and dug deep to hold off a late run by Fee Historique, prevailing by the shortest of margins.

A half-brother to the twice Listed-placed Dave, the Antoine Gilibert-owned Commander was bred by M Daguzan-Garros and BB Modi out of a half-sister to Japanese Group winners Satono Rasen and Satono Chronicle.

War Command was a top-class juvenile himself, winning the Group 2 Coventry Stakes by six lengths, Group 2 Futurity Stakes by Cable Bay and the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes. The son of War Front commands €8,000 in 2019.
