First Crop 2YO Double for Competitive Edge
Exciting young sire Competitive Edge was in hot form on Saturday with a winning double at Saratoga and Arlington with Tumbling Sky (2c Competitive Edge x Tareks Dream, by Distorted Humor) an impressive winner on debut for the Steve Asmussen stable.
Tumbling Sky (pictured) travelled up on the pace in the six furlong maiden at Saratoga and forged clear at the finish to win by more than a length.
Tumbling Sky sold for $200,000 after working a furlong in :10 1/5 at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May sale and showed that same brand of pace when it counted on race day.
Tumbling Sky is the first winner from Tareks Dream, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Defer West, the dam of Grade II winner Forest Music.
Competitive Edge also sired Contendress (2f Competitive Edge x Lady on Holiday, by Harlan’s Holiday) to win at Arlington at her third start, so has now put seven first crop winners including a Saratoga stakes winner on the board.
