Atomic Force Too Slick

Newcastle trainer Darren Smith’s decision to send his classy sprinter Atomic Force (6g Danehill Dancer x Show of Force, by Luskin Star) to Melbourne early has paid immediate dividends after he captured the Listed MRC Slickpix Stakes over 1100 metres at Caulfield.

Atomic Force stalked the leaders and then powered to the line to win by a length, his overall record now nine wins and 11 placings from 31 starts with prizemoney of $689,600.

“The main plan was to try and get down here before all of the Sydney people came down and had a go,” Smith said.

Winning rider Damien Oliver was delighted with the effort of Atomic Force.

“She (Avenue) really hums along, we sat on her back and they were really going quickly and he really went past her quick so he showed a great turn of foot this horse,” Oliver said.

“He has got good, genuine speed. He worked well here on Tuesday and he switched on even more today on race day.”

Already a winner of the Group I ATC The Galaxy back in the autumn, Smith said Atomic Force would attempt to record the second Group I win of his career in the MVRC Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 30.

A $50,000 purchase for Dynamic Syndications from the Raheen Stud draft at Magic Millions, Atomic Force is one of five winners, but the first stakes-winner for Group I placed Luskin Star mare Show of Force, who comes from the family of six-time Group I winner Encounter.
