Cup Day Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock

Awesome Rock (Fastnet Rock) winning the Symphony Stakes (L) at Flemington

The Listed VRC Symphony Stakes at Flemington on Cup Day was won in decisive fashion by talented entire Awesome Rock (4h Fastnet Rock x Awesome Planet, by Giant’s Causeway) , a $575,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Spicer Thoroughbreds.

A last start second to Group I winner Stratum Star in the Group III MRC David Jones Cup, the Leon and Troy Corstens trained Awesome Rock looked well placed in this 1800 metre contest.

Sent forward from a wide gate by Steve Baster, he travelled up on the pace and powered clear to win by more than a length.

Group placed at two and three, Awesome Rock has always promised to win a good race and with this confidence booster under his belt he may well progress rapidly.

The first foal of Group III wining Giant’s Causeway mare Awesome Planet, Awesome Rock has the overall record of two wins and six placings from 15 starts with prizemoney nearing $260,000.

He is the 89th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
