The Cloros family have been lucky enough to race some top class fillies over the years including Group I stars such as Coco Cobanna, In Joyment and smart stakes-winner Sara’s Choice, whose first foal Saralago (2f Encosta de Lago x Sara’s choice, by Choisir) won impressively for them at Bendigo on Thursday.
Trained by Hawkes Racing, the talented filly beat a big field of 15 to win the 1100 metre maiden by a length, showing a stylish turn of foot to claim a soft win.
Winning rider Dwayne Dunn was impressed with the daughter of champion sire Encosta de Lago.
“She was slowly away, but travelled up to them easily,” he said.
“She ran out of petrol a bit late, otherwise she would have won far more easily.”
Saralago is the first foal of Sara’s Choice, who was a bargain purchase for George Cloros and his family, snapped up by astute bloodstock agent Jon Freyer for just $25,000 from the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
By Choisir from Momentous Ride, Sara’s Choice won the Listed AJC Reginald Allen Handicap, was fourth in the Group I AJC Flight Stakes and is now proving her worth as a broodmare.
