Rank outsider Fantastic Blue (5g Danehill Dancer x Chandrika, by Kenmare) belied his long odds to score a surprise win in the Group III BRC Premiers Cup at Doomben on Saturday.
The Paul Nolan trained gelding flew home from near last to score a short head win in the 2200 metre feature.
A $55,000 purchase for his trainer from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Fantastic Blue has won 11 races and some $385,950 in prizemoney for his happy owners.
Bred by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, Fantastic Blue is one of six winners, but the first stakes-winner for Chandrika, a half-sister by Kenmare to dual Group I AJC Doncaster Handicap winner Pharaoh from the great ‘Leica’ family that has produced countless top performers over the years.
Chandrika saved the best for last as Fantastic Blue was her final foal.
Fantastic Blue is the 136th stakes-winner worldwide for veteran shuttle sire Danehill Dancer, who travelled to Australia for many years and is now based permanently at Coolmore in Ireland.
