Champion racehorse Dylan Thomas posted his first Australian winner on Saturday when talented filly Edge of Love (2f Dylan Thomas x Bound, by Royal Academy) scored easily on debut at the Gold Coast.
Trained on the track by Bruce Hill, Edge of Love led throughout and took the 900 metre scamper by two lengths in a dominant display.
Hill has held his charge in high regard from an early stage.
“She’s only had one trial but is tough and very professional. She appears to have taken her race very well and I’ll let her tell me where she wants to go next,” said the delighted trainer.
Edge of Love was an $80,000 purchase for her trainer from the Turangga Farm draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Sale during Session Five and is the first winner from ill-fated Royal Academy mare Bound, a daughter of Group I winner Wrap Around and half-sister to the dam of champion filly Fashions Afield.
A six-time Group I winner by Danehill, Dylan Thomas has sired 11 first crop winners in the Northern Hemisphere including stakes –placed performers Athens, Snowflake Dancer and Battle of Saratoga.
He is standing at Coolmore in Australia this spring at a fee of $19,800.
