First Aussie Winner for Excellent Art

Exciting young sire Excellent Art posted his first Australian winner on Saturday when Family Portrait (2f Excellent Art x Amen Ruby, by Rubiton) scored a stylish debut win at Morphettville.

The Mick Huxtable trained filly settled off the pace and accelerated swiftly to win the 1000 metre dash by a length and a half.

A $60,000 purchase from the draft of Musk Creek Farm at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Family Portrait is the fourth winner from stakes-placed Rubiton mare Amen Ruby, a daughter of Group II winner Golden Prayer.

Family Portrait is the first winner from three first crop runners in Australia for Excellent Art, who is the sire of 26 winners in the Northern Hemisphere, three of them stakes-winners led by Group III winner Experience.

A Group I winning son of Pivotal, Excellent Art stands at Coolmore at a modest fee of $11,000.
