Lightly raced Spanish Love (4m High Chaparral x Lovingly, by Grand Lodge) forged clear for an eye-catching win at Flemington on Saturday for the Mark Kavanagh stable.
An impressive last start maiden winner at Moonee Valley, she handled a significant class rise to take the 1600 metre Benchmark 78 event by the best part of a length, her second win from six starts with three minor placings.
“I don’t know how far she is going to go this preparation, but certainly later on I think she is going to be pretty good,” Kavanagh said.
“She is out of a Grand Lodge mare so she could get out to 2400 metres. She’s not big, but she could be a nice staying handicapper.”
Spanish Love was a $92,500 Inglis Premier purchase from the Eliza Park International draft and is the first winner for Lovingly, an imported daughter of Grand Lodge from the family of Group I winners Love Divine, Sixties Icon and Hong Kong star Dan Excel.
Her sire High Chaparral is completing his current Southern Hemisphere season in Australia before returning to Ireland for 2015.
