Siege Of Quebec (Fastnet Rock) winning at Rosehill

Golden Rose Goal for Fastnet Colt

Blue-blooded colt Siege of Quebec (2c Fastnet Rock x Rose of Cimmaron, by Bite the Bullet) obviously has the ability to match his stunning good looks judging by a tenacious win at Rosehill on Saturday defeating another highly rated colt in Calculated (2c So You Think x Calchris, by Commands). Sent straight to the front by Tommy Berry in the 1400 metre contest, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Siege Of Quebec looked to be the first to come off the bridle as Hugh Bowman on Calculated followed Berry through and levelled up. A winner at Newcastle when making his career debut on June 27, Siege of Quebec is made of stern stuff. He fought off Calculated for a hard earned half length win with Paul Perry's Fastnet Rock colt Condor three and a half lengths back in third. "He's bred to be anything. Once he puts it all together and learns he'll be a serious horse," Bott said. "The immediate plan is that we will be heading towards the Golden Rose (Group I). "We have a plan mapped out for him, probably going through the Ming Dynasty leading in. "He looked under a bit of pressure at the top of the straight but that's just the colt, he's certainly got plenty of fighting qualities. "He's such a naturally talented horse but there's a lot of raw ability there at the moment. "He's still working out what it's all about, still learning when to quicken, when to let down but when he's challenged he knows exactly what to do and importantly at the moment he knows where the line is.” Siege of Quebec was bought for $1.2 million from the Newgate Farm draft at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by T Magnier / Gai Waterhouse Racing / Nordic Racing & Breeding / J Blaxland and runs in the Coolmore navy blue silks. He is a full brother to Magic Millions sale-topper Bull Point, who retired last year as a Group I placed Group III winner of over $550,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman, who retains a share in him, Siege of Quebec is the second winner for Rose of Cimmaron, a full sister to Group III winner Mica’s Pride, the dam of $7million earner Criterion as well as Group winners Varenna Miss and Comin’ Through, who is also by Fastnet Rock.
