Group Two Winner for Haradasun

Exciting young sire Haradasun was in the spotlight at Rosehill on Saturday when his highly talented son Kabayan (3g Haradasun x Tarlaquena, by Don Eduardo) scored a dominant win in the Group II ATC Stan Fox Stakes.

Kabayan was ridden a perfect race by Nash Rawiller and when eased into the clear quickly accelerated past his rivals to win the 1500 metre event by the best part of two lengths over Golden Rose runner-up Albrecht.

A homebred for Gooree Stud, the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding finished second in the Group I BRC TJ Smith Stakes during the Brisbane Winter Carnival at just his third race start and was spelled immediately with the spring in mind.

A close second when resuming in the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes behind classy filly Lady of Harrods showed he was back better than ever, but his last start fifth in the Group I ATC $1million Golden Rose was seen by connections as disappointing.

“I thought he would just win the Golden Rose, but they were a bit too brilliant for him that day,” Waterhouse revealed.

“The 1500 metres here today and the steadier tempo was perfect and he’ll be backing up next Saturday into the Spring Champion Stakes (Group I).”

Nash Rawiller was also pleased to see Kabayan produce his best.

“We expected more from him in the Golden Rose,” he said.

“He was just too good this time and when he gets over further he’ll be even better.”

Kabayan has the overall record of two wins and three seconds from six starts with prizemoney of $327,400.

He is first foal of Don Eduardo mare Tarlaquena (NZ), a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Matras and daughter of Group II winner Tropical Affair.

Kabayan is the first stakes-winner for Haradsun, who stands this season at a fee of $16,500.
