Irish Stakes-Winner for Encosta

Champion Australian sire Encosta de Lago featured in Ireland where Empowering (4m Encosta de Lago x Blue Cloud, by Nashwan) captured the Listed Sweet Mimosa Stakes at Naas.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, owned by his wife Anne-Marie and ridden by their son Joseph, Empowering prevailed to win the six furlong sprint by half a length, her overall record now three wins and four placings from 14 starts.

Already a stakes-winner having won the Group III Leopardstown One Thousand Guineas Trial last year, Empowering is one of seven winners, but the only stakes-winner for stakes-winning Nashwan mare Blue Cloud, a half-sister to Group I winner and sire Bigstone.

Encosta de Lago has had his usual productive season in Australia siring 130 winners of $6.1 million in prizemoney highlighted by 10 stakes-winners.

He was also the Champion Sire in Hong Kong for 2011/2012 and stands this year at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $82,500.
