Promising filly Costa Viva (3f Encosta de Lago x Vivacious Spirit, by Bel Esprit) took the Listed Ray Coupland Stakes at Ashburton in New Zealand on Saturday at just her third start for the Jason Bridgman stable.
An easy winner on debut at the end of August and then second to top filly Bounding in a Group III event, Costa Viva is a filly of considerable potential and will now head towards the Group I NZ Thousand Guineas at Riccarton.
A $100,000 Magic Millions National Sale purchase for Te Akau boss David Ellis from the draft of Tyreel Stud as agent, Costa Viva is the first foal of Group III winning Bel Esprit mare Vivacious Spirit, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Audacious Spirit.
Her full brother was sold at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year for $75,000 to Matt Laurie Racing/ Carringbush Park.
Costa Viva is the 96th stakes-winner for champion sire Encosta de Lago .
