Two days after the Goodwood G2 Vintage success of Olympic Glory (2c Choisir-Acidanthera, by Alzao), Choisir was in the headlines again in France on Friday thanks to Monsieur Joe (4c Choisir-Pascali, by Compton Place).
The four-year-old easily won the Listed Prix du Cercle at Deauville after a season in which he has finished a close fourth in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai and been beaten a short-head in the G3 Prix Saint-Georges at Longchamp.
Jockey Olivier Peslier told www.racingpost.com: “I’ve ridden him several times before and he’s very tough and he likes to be up with the pace, so I sat just off the leader. He’s an improving horse.”
Owner Helen Checkley added: “He’s got an entry in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and we’ll probably send him back to Dubai again. He’s been twice before and he thrives out there.”
Monsieur Joe was bred by Eleanor and Nicola Kent and comes from the family of outstanding juvenile Pass The Peace and her daughter Embassy.
