It’s not easy to win a stakes race on debut, but promising colt Sir Luminar (2c Choisir x Illuminar, by Last Tycoon) made it look easy when he led throughout to cruise home and win the Listed BRC Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Partnered by Chris Munce, the Michael Nolan trained Sir Luminar ran right up to a brilliant barrier trial win at Toowoomba last month in defeating another Choisir gelding in Sir Moments to win by more than length in the slick time of 57.14 seconds for the 1000 metres.
Sir Luminar was a $60,000 purchase for his trainer from the Carramar Park draft at the Magic Millions Sale during Session Five and has already recouped his purchase price collecting $64,000 for his debut win.
Sir Luminar was bred by Torryburn Stud and a sold as a weanling for $25,000 at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale, so was a successful pinhook.
The 46th stakes-winner worldwide for Choisir, he is the second winner for smart metropolitan winning Last Tycoon mare Illuminar, a daughter of stakes-winner Luminia.
