Holy Roman Emperor won’t be coming to Australia this spring, but the dual Group I winning son of Danehill has been quietly going about siring his share of winners including metropolitan winners Queen’s Elect and Lady of Capri.

With four metropolitan placings from her only previous starts, Queen’s Elect (2f Holy Roman Emperor x Grand Story, by Grand Lodge) was overdue for a win and broke the ice at Canterbury.

The David Payne trained filly was sent to the lead by apprentice rider Chad Schofield and controlled the race throughout, dashing quickly at the top of the straight to cruise home and win the 1580 metre restricted event for juveniles as she pleased.

“She’s going to be alright this filly and maybe over a bit further as well, possibly up to 2000 metres,” said Payne, who part-owns the filly with his good friend Wayne Aldridge.

Chad Schofield handled the filly a treat and was delighted with the result.

“She’s better rolling in front,” he said.

“She travelled really well and was just too good on the day.”

A modest $30,000 purchase from the Southern Cross Breeders draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Queen’s Elect is a half-sister to smart stakes-winner My Destiny.

Foaled and raised at Riversdale Farm, Queen’s Elect is the third winner from Grand Story, a half-sister by Grand Lodge (USA) to Group I winner Mr Bureaucrat.

Saluting shortly after at Eagle Farm in Brisbane was Lady of Capri (2f Holy Roman Emperor x Playground Express, by Success Express) to give her sire 13 individual Australian two year-old winners this season.

Holy Roman Emperor is running fifth on the list of leading sires by individual two year-old Australian winners.
