$3.2million Pierro Mare Tops Magic Millions National Sale
Champion sire Pierro has left half a dozen Group I winners, but none have been better than his exceptional daughter Arcadia Queen (5m Pierro x Arcadia, by Redoute’s Choice), who topped the record breaking Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast this week when selling for $3.2million.
A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, Arcadia Queen was initially passed in when offered by Holbrook Thoroughbreds as agent through the ring on Tuesday, but subsequent negotiations have resulted in a sale with Arrowfield Stud securing the triple Group I winner, who was won just shy of $4million in prizemoney.
"She's a wonderful mare," Arrowfield Stud's Paul Messara said. "One of those foundation style mares that you love to have.
"It's a fantastic pedigree and obviously she's an amazing mare. She will go back to Arrowfield and one of our breeding ventures and we're delighted to have her.
"Obviously with a mare like this it is very important to get the right mating for her and produce the best commercial outcome."
Not surprisingly, Arcadia Queen’s dam Arcadia has been a regular visitor to Pierro and has a yearling filly and weanling colt by the Golden Slipper winning sire and is back in foal to him again.
Pierro stands this spring at a fee of $110,000.
