$360,000 for Fastnet Rock Colt at OBS June
A rarity at a North American 2YO’s in Training Sale, a Fastnet Rock colt from Alone made a big impression at the OBS June Sale on Friday when fetching $360,000.
Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, the powerful bay was bought by Jerry and Ronald Frankel and comes with a European pedigree being from an unraced sister to Group I winner Lush Lashes.
The colt galloped out a quarter mile in 21 seconds flat showing speed to go with his impressive good looks.
“He’s inbred to Northern Dancer, just like about 15 really top horses I could name, including Songbird and American Pharoah,” Frankel said. “And he is bred very similarly to a filly named Qualify (Epsom Oaks winner). The breeding is very important to me.”
The colt is bred on the highly successful Fastnet Rock x Galileo cross that has produced six stakes-winners including Qualify and another Group I winner in Magicool.
“Liz Crow (bloodstock agent) went and looked at him for me and she really liked him,” Frankel explained
Crow added, “This is a very unique pedigree to find in America and especially at OBS June. Fastnet Rock is one of the top stallions in Australia and to have Galileo on the bottom side is a great combination. He worked one of the best quarters, we thought, in the sale and he is a big strong colt. Jerry and Ron are always looking to add good pedigrees to their stable and he certainly fit that.”
