440,000 guineas for Churchill Colt
Exciting young sire Churchill has enjoyed good success with his first Northern Hemisphere bred two year-olds this year and his stock were popular at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 this week.
His top seller was a colt from proven stakes producer Tanaghum that made 440,000 guineas for Barronstown Stud when bought by Sackville Donald.
The colt is a sibling to nine winners highlighted by Group I winner Matterhorn, Group II winner Bangkok, Group III winner Tactic and stakes-winner Yaazy as well as the dam of Champion Miler Ribchester.
Churchill also had good results with a filly from Mora Bai selling for 250,000 guineas and a colt from Katiyra selling for 200,000 guineas.
Churchill has his first Australian two year-olds on the track this season with his first runner Robusto (2c Churchill x She’s Clean, by Redoute’s Choice) performing well last Saturday in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial.
The Chris Waller trained colt began awkwardly and was never very comfortable on the slow ground at his first gallop up the Flemington straight, but he still ran well to finish fourth beaten a little over two lengths in a field of 11.
Churchill is back in Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000 and is already the sire of three stakes-winners in the Northern Hemisphere.
