500,000gns Galileo colt tops Tattersalls foal sale
A son of champion sire Galileo became the dearest foal sold at Tattersalls since 2004 when topping the record-breaking December Foal Sale with a price of 500,000 guineas.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Thani outlasted David Ryan of Aran Bloodstock for the March-born colt, a full-brother to the 2010 G1 Derby runner-up At First Sight sold by The Castlebridge Consignment.
“He was a lovely-looking colt,” said Sheikh Fahad, who was accompanied by his advisor David Redvers. “He was real quality, he really caught my eye - I went to see him a few times and I liked him more every time I saw him. He has made half a million, but If he were to have come here as yearling, he could have made a million so it makes sense. This horse has been bought to race.”
Sheikh Fahad also bought the 2.5 million son of Galileo who topped the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale earlier in the autumn. Named Hydrogen, the colt has gone into training with Peter Chapple-Hyam in Newmarket.
