The Listed SAJC City of Marion Stakes at Morphettville was won on Saturday by Addiction to Rock (6g Rock of Gibraltar x Bellediction, by Blevic) , who pulled out a career best performance to win for new trainer Will Clarken. With a win and two placings at his three previous runs Addiction to Rock has been in good form and proved too strong for race favourite Essay Raider to win the 1200 metre sprint by more than a length. Addiction to Rock has the overall record of nine wins and 12 placigns from 38 starts with prizemoney of $328,780. A $40,000 Magic Millions purchase for Hancock Quality Bloodstock from the Goodwood Farm draft, Addiction to Rock is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Blevic mare Bellediction, who died in 2010. Addiction to Rock is the 90th stakes-winner for accomplished shuttle sire Rock of Gibraltar, who is now permanently based in Ireland after eight seasons of shuttling to Australia.
