American Pharoah’s Goldrush Guru Wins Hill Smith

Goldrush Guru (3c American Pharoah x Glam Guru, by Medaglia d’Oro) proved to be much the best in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes in Australia overnight with a 2 1/2 length win in the race.

Stepping up to the 1 1/8-mile trip for the first time, he mounted his challenge coming into the straight as the race favorite and it was all but over from there. In only a matter of strides, he had the lead and quickly sprinted away from the field.

A few horses tried to stick with him, but it was no use as Goldrush Guru comfortably controlled the race to win by 2 ½ lengths with all but two horses over 4 ½ lengths behind him.

Trained by Andrew Gluyas, the Guru Breeding Syndicate-bred races for Mr B H Perks, Ms A M Clough, Mr G F Marriott, Mrs J A Marriott, Mr B V White, and Mrs K L White. He’s won three of his seven starts with three other top three finishes in his career.

The colt is the first foal out of the Group II placed Glam Guru, who is a half-sister to Group III winner and Group I fourth Gamblin’ Guru and to Group III placed Gossip Guru. That mare also produced Group III placed Gotta Go Guru.

Glam Guru is currently in foal to St Mark’s Basilica.

American Pharoah is the sire of 51 stakes winners and 94 stakes performers worldwide with his stakes winners coming in eight different countries and led by eight Grade I winners.
