Another Fastnet Flyer
Fastnet Rock has unearthed a string of smart two year-old winners in past weeks including Destruction, Nechita and Ninth Legion with Gooree homebred Your Song (2c Fastnet Rock x Zembu, by Fuji Kiseki) adding to the list following a stylish victory at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Your Song is highly regarded by the Anthony Cummings stable and was heavily fancied when making his debut at Canterbury recently, but the plunge came unstuck when the horse was forced to cover more than his fair share of ground around the tight circuit before finishing third behind the impressive Albrecht.
A wide run wasn’t an issue this time with Your Song settling behind the leader from barrier three and when Weepu when searching for the better ground at the top of the straight, Your Song slipped up the inside and stormed to the front to win by a head.
"He’s got great ability and we thought he’d come here today and produce the goods which he’s done,” winning rider Peter Robl told TVN.
"He’s got a lot of improvement probably mentally more so than physically but it will come.”
Anthony Cummings stable foreman Barry Smith said the stable believes Your Song has the scope to play a role in richer contests later in the year.
"He’s probably one of the best ones we’ve got at the moment,” he said. "I’m not sure what will happen but we might just back off him a little bit now and get him ready for the spring.
"A little freshen up and some nice race in the spring.”
Your Song is the second winner for Fuki Kiseki (Jpn) mare Zembu, whose dam Wanice is a half-sister to champion racehorse and six-time Group I winner Fantastic Light.
Zembu has another weanling colt in the pipeline by Fastnet Rock .
