Another Group I Contender for Adelaide
Cox Plate winner Adelaide already has a Group I winner to his credit in Funstar and seven length maiden winner Pride of Adelaide (3g Adelaide x Miss Montire, by Pentire) at Newcastle on Monday may well be his next Group I contender.
Entered for the Group I ATC Australian Derby and Rosehill Guineas, the Nathan Doyle trained gelding Pride of Adelaide was a hot favourite for the 1350 metre maiden and gave nothing else a chance.
Sporting blinkers for the first time after two previous starts in which he finished second, Pride of Adelaide worked to the lead and stayed there, racing clear for the easiest of wins.
His second on debut at Scone last September was behind Never Listen, who ended her spring running second in the Group I VRC Oaks, so aiming high with Pride of Adelaide might prove equally rewarding.
Retained to race by his breeders, Pride of Adelaide is the first winner from Miss Montire, an unraced Pentire mare, whose third dam is Centaine’s sister Reigntaine.
An influential broodmare, Reigntaine has spawned an impressive dynasty of stake-winners that includes blue hen Procrastinate and Group I winners Laisserfaire and Lone Rock.
Pride of Adelaide is the eighth first crop winner from just 30 starters for Galileo’s supremely talented son Adelaide, who has been well supported at Coolmore Australia and covered 104 mares last spring at a fee of $11,000.
