Aussie Group I Winner for Galileo
Second in the Irish Derby at three, high class stayer Seville (6h Galileo x Silverskaya, by Silver Hawk) captured his first Australian Group I race when landing the ATC The Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday.
Trained by Robert Hickmott for Lloyd Williams and partners, Seville charged home to win the 2400 metre staying test by half a length with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
The win qualified Seville for the Melbourne Cup.
“Hugh Bowman gave him a peach of a ride,” said a delighted owner Nick Williams.
“I was a little worried coming to the turn when the field bunched up and I thought he might not get a run. But, as usual, Australia’s best jockey Hugh Bowman got the inside run and the horse was very strong over the concluding stages.
“All bodes well for the Cup.”
Seville is one of 150 stakes-winners for champion sire Galileo and is from Group III winner Silverskaya.
