Callanish Graduates to Open Company
Exciting Fastnet Rock four year-old Callanish (4g Fastnet Rock x Dancing Doll, by Dance Floor) went on his winning way at Caulfield on Sunday posting a resounding four length victory to keep his unbeaten record intact.
Since casting off the stigma of being a ‘barrier rogue’, the Mick Price trained Callanish has improved at every turn reeling off seven successive wins, five of them this preparationsince resuming from a spell on July 29.
Tackling open company for the first time and ridden by regular partner Dale Smith, Callanish made it look all too easy in leading throughout and then coasting home to win the 1700 metre contest as he pleased.
A $320,000 purchase from the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2010 NZB Premier Yearling Sale for his trainer, Callanish has won each of his seven starts to date earning $154,551 in prizemoney.
He is a half-brother to Group III winner Dancing Daggers and is from Dancing Doll, who comes from the family of Group I winners Blevic, Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
Callanish looms as a future stakes-winner for reigning champion sire Fastnet Rock, whose talented son We’re Gonna Rock (6g Fastnet Rock x Harrow, by Dehere) finished a good second to Moment of Change in the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes earlier on the program.
