Canadian Grade Three Winner for Fastnet
Champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock broke new ground at the weekend with his first stakes-winner in North America courtesy of Irish bred mare Uchenna (4m Fastnet Rock x Uriah, by Acatenango) who captured the Grade III Ontario Matron Stakes at Woodbine.
A winner at Goodwood and Wolverhampton before transferring to North America earlier this year, Uchenna is now with Roger Attfield and produced a career best performance to win this 1 and 1/16th mile contest on the all-weather track by three parts of a length.
Uchenna has won four of 13 starts and there are more wins in store.
"She was always travelling well," said Attfield.
"I was very pleased with where she was sitting and how she was travelling. Going along the top, I knew she'd stay on and was quite confident she would run a real big race."
The 79th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock, Uchenna is a half-sister to Hong Kong Derby Trial winner King Dancer and is from German bred US Grade II winner Uriah.
Set to be crowned Champion Australian Sire by earnings for 2014/2015, Fastnet Rock has also enjoyed global success this year with two Group I winners in Europe in Qualify and Diamondsandrubies.
