Choisir 2YO Wins $100,000 Inglis Scone Challenge

Popular Scone trainer Rod Northam won the $100,000 Inglis Scone Challenge for the fifth time on Friday saddling talented maiden Spilt (2g Choisir x My Cup Runneth Over, by Encosta de Lago) to win the lucrative sprint for horses sold as yearlings at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale the previous year.

Ridden patiently by Robert Thompson from a wide gate, Spilt hit the line hard to win the 1100 metre sprint by half a length a his third start.

"He was a typical Choisir and had a remarkably similar build to Big Money – another son of Choisir – so I decided to buy him,'' said Northam, who trained Big Money to win multiple stakes races and over $800,000 in prizemoney.

"From that point on we targeted this race and it's always a great feeling when long-term plans come off.''

Foaled and raised at Coolmore for his breeder Laurie Macri, Spilt was a $2,000 purchase for Northam from the Fernrigg Farm draft and is the second winner from My Cup Runneth Over, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to the dams of Group I winner Hasahalo, Group II winner Savvy Nature and Group III winner Addictive Nature.

My Cup Runneth Over has a weanling colt by No Nay Never and is in foal to Pride of Dubai.
