Dia de Otoño First G1 Winner for Mendelssohn
It was a Group I winner for Mendelssohn on Friday when daughter Dia de Otoño (3f Mendelssohn x Dynajoy, by Kitten’s Joy) won the Group I Clasico Polla de Potrancas.
The 7 ½ furlong turf race saw Dia de Otoño break well, before settling as one of the two back markers well off the lead. Not much changed for the runner until they hit the stretch and the field moved to the middle of the track, leaving her plenty of room up the inside.
Dia de Otoño took advantage, taking over the lead in the final furlong and pulling away to win by 3 ¾ lengths.
Bred by Haras Don Alberto, she is trained by Julio Orellana for Stud El Mirador. The filly is out of a two-time winning Kitten’s Joy half-sister to the U.S. stakes winning duo of Girl Named Charlie and Dominga.
Mendelssohn is the sire of 13 worldwide stakes winners and 38 worldwide stakes performers in six different countries.
Mendelssohn’s 108 Northern Hemisphere-foaled winners this year is sixth best among all U.S. sires while also leading all third crop sires with more than 30 winners more than the second best stallion in the category.
