Galen (Gleneagles) Impresses At Killarney

Exciting Gleneagles Colt Follows Up With Clearcut Win

Galen (3c Gleneagles – Apache Storm, by Pivotal) backed up last month’s impressive Curragh maiden win with another commanding performance at Killarney on Monday.

Runner-up to City Of Troy on his sole juvenile start, Joseph O’Brien’s charge filled the same position after returning from a layoff, before drawing nine lengths clear in a mile maiden. He was sent off a short-priced favourite to follow up under Dylan Browne McMonagle, who rode the chesnut to make all. Ridden clear after the two furlong marker, he needed little encouragement to win by all of 11 lengths, with another six lengths back to the third.

“We couldn't have been more pleased that that,” said the winning rider. “I let Galen swing along, doing good even fractions the whole way and I let him stretch from the top of the straight. He's going the right way and only going to get better. The ground was a big help, he's a really good mover.”

A step up to Stakes level seems the likely step for Galen, who is owned by Paul Redmond, TG Fitzgerald, Mrs Anne Marie O’Brien and B Fowler. Bred by Moyns Park Estate, he continues an incredible season for Gleneagles.
