Fastnet Colt Conquers BTC Cup
Gooree Stud homebred Your Song (3c Fastnet Rock x Zembu, by Fuji Kiseki) resumed from a spell at Eagle Farm on Saturday and turned in an explosive performance to thrash a quality field to win the Group I BRC BTC Cup.
Tuned up for the 1200 metre assignment with a recent seven length barrier trial win in Sydney by astute trainer Anthony Cummings, Your Song was given the run of the race by Peter Robl and surged away over the concluding stages to win as he pleased in the heavy conditions.
Yet another high class three year-old to defeat older rivals this season, Your Song saluted by five lengths and has the overall record of three wins and three placings from seven starts with prizemoney in excess of $447,000.
“I told Mr Cojuangco (Gooree Stud) he was a Group I standard horse, but it’s just taken me a bit longer than I thought to prove it,” said Cummings, who indicated the colt would press on to the Group I Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap.
Regular partner Peter Robl has been aboard Your Song in five of his previous six starts and was thrilled with the win.
“He’s a beautiful animal and has a beautiful attitude,” said Robl.
“He’s been A1 since he arrived at Anthony’s and I just hope he can win a few more Group I’s.”
Your Song is the best of two winners from metropolitan winning Fuki Kiseki (Jpn) mare Zembu, whose dam Wanice is a half-sister to champion racehorse and six-time Group I winner Fantastic Light.
A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gooree Stud back in 2001, Zembu has a yearling full brother to Your Song to follow.
Your Song is the 45th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock, whose daughter Sea Siren won the Group I BRC Cup last year.
Your Song is the 13th Group I winner for Fastnet Rock, who is Australia’s most expensive sire in 2013, his fee set at $275,000.
