Fastnet Colt Tops Magic Millions National Weanlings
A colt by champion sire Fastnet Rock was the top seller at the 2013 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast when fetching $290,000 to the bid of Sun Kingdom/Eliza Park.
Consigned for sale by Erinvale Thoroughbreds, the star colt is the second foal from Sorority Girl, a winning half-sister to Group II winner Happy Giggle from the family of Group I winner Pure of Heart.
He is also bred on the exact same cross as multiple Group I winning Fastnet Rock filly Mosheen, who is also from a daughter of Stravinsky.
Hong Kong based businessman Cheng Ting Kong teamed up with well-known breeding operation Eliza Park to secure the youngster.
Eliza Park's David O'Callaghan, who worked closely with the international investors, said the colt was a stand out.
"Mr Cheng really loves Fastnet Rock and thinks he is one of the most successful sires in the country," O'Callaghan said.
"He's a lovely colt and we hope he will become a top racehorse and perhaps even develop into a stallion."
Fastnet Rock also had good results with fillies from Native Song (NZ) and Mohegan Sky (USA) selling for $260,000 and $200,000 respectively giving him an overall average of $250,000, which was the best of any sire at this sale by quite a margin.
