Fastnet Debut Winner Impressive
Exciting prospect Gigabyte (3g Fastnet Rock x Twisted Heart, by Distorted Humor) created a big impression when he stormed home from last to win the 1100 metre maiden by half a length at Ballarat on Thursday.
Prepared by Danny O’Brien, Gigabyte was ridden patiently by Mark Zahra, who allowed him to settle back in the field and find his feet after jumping from an outside gate, before charging home out wide.
“We just wanted to teach him a bit today and get him back in behind horses so he could run home and he really impressed me,” said Zahra.
“He’s still learning, but when he puts it altogether he’s going to be a nice horse.”
Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park for his breeders Tim Hughes and the Dufficy brothers, Gigabyte fetched $200,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions and is the third winner from three foals to race for the Group III placed Distorted Humor mare Twisted Heart.
