Fastnet Filly Tops MM Session Four
Champion sire Fastnet Rock provided the highlight during the fourth session of the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Saturday night.
Consigned for sale by Tyreel Stud on behalf of Makybe, the powerful bay filly from Gold Chant attracted much attention in pre-sale discussion.
After a fierce struggle between two of the country's leading trainers, it was Chris Waller who outbid Peter Moody to secure the filly for $500,000.
"She's a very, very nice horse," he said. "There is Fastnet Rock over a speed mare and Starspangledbanner sticks out (in the pedigree).
"These pedigrees are hard to get and you have to pay more to get into them."
She is the third foal of stakes-placed Gold Chant, a half-sister by El Moxie to champion sprinter Starspangledbanner.
Fastnet Rock finished the elite first four sessions with 33 yearlings selling at an average $318,030 highlighted by his colt from Smart Company that topped the sale when fetching $1.35 million.
