Fastnet Filly Wins Gai Waterhouse Classic
Talented filly Jazz Song (3f Fastnet Rock x Absolut Glam, by Snowland) snared her second Black Type win of the season when taking out the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich on Saturday.
The Mick Price trained filly won the Group III MVRC Typhoon Tracy Stakes back in February and has been in work ever since racing consistently without winning.
A close last start fifth in the Group II BRC Queensland Guineas indicated Jazz Song was not far off her top and she proved that today when beating promising filly Griante to win the 1350 metre contest by a long neck for Jim Byrne.
Tony Gollan, who prepares Queensland’s ‘Boom Brothers’ Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom, was representing the Mick Price stable as the filly had been staying at his Eagle Farm stables over carnival.
"She’s a really nice filly, good to see her take on these older mares and Jimmy rode her perfectly, got the gun run,” said Gollan.
"She’s a strong filly and she’s continued to improve in the Queensland sunshine.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock and consigned to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Willow Park Stud, Jazz Song was bought for $625,000 by James Bester Bloodstock/Demi O’Byrne and runs for Coolmore and partners.
She has won three of eight starts and a tick over $200,000 in prizemoney, with her two Black Type victories adding considerable value to her future worth at stud.
Jazz Song is the first foal of Group I Tatts Winter Stakes winner Absolut Glam, who was bought for $950,000 at the 2010 Inglis Broodmare Sale when in foal to Fastnet Rock with Jazz Song the result.
Jazz Song is one of 13 Australian stakes-winners this season for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
