Fastnet Rock nears 100 Stakes winners

Champion sire Fastnet Rock is rapidly closing in on 100 career Stakes winners following the victory of exciting sprinter Kaepernick at Scone. The 94th individual stakes winner by Fastnet Rock, Kaepernick now boasts 5 wins and 4 placings from 13 starts with prizemoney of $338,750. Co-trainer Michael Hawkes indicated Group 1 aspirations for him during the Brisbane winter carnival, saying “the Stradbroke is the ultimate goal so long as he does everything right going forward.”

Paramount to the success of Fastnet Rock as a sire is his ability to produce Group 1 horses.  Group 1 winners account for 23 of his 94 Stakes winners (24.5%). With 3 Group 1 winners in Europe last season, Fastnet Rock has established himself as a truly world-class sire.

His burgeoning reputation in Europe has continued to intensify in 2016 with 4 Stakes winners since the beginning of April and a host of Classic contenders including Group 2 winning 2yo Turret Rocks and Shogun, the full-brother to last year’s Epsom Oaks heroine, Qualify.
