Fastnet Rock 2YO Goes Two for Two
Following an impressive career debut at Wyong on May 13, Park Avenue (2g Fastnet Rock x Mywayorthehighway, by Swiss Ace) made it two for two with a fast-finishing victory over 1100m at Randwick on Saturday.
Ridden by Jean Van Overmeire for Richard and Michael Freedman, Park Avenue jumped well but was allowed to drift back searching for some cover and by the time they made the home turn, he was back second last.
He was eased out to make his run down the centre of the track, keeping up a strong gallop to win by a half-head.
“Michael has always had a high opinion of this guy,” Van Overmeire said.
“He gallops well at home and I’m happy that he has come to the races two times and performed.
“He has a lot of upside and will get over further in distance. Maturity is still to come - the penny has not dropped completely yet, and once that happens, I think he will be a very smart horse.”
A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase by his trainers out of the Segenhoe draft, Park Avenue runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders Segenhoe Stud in whose colours he runs.
Park Avenue is the first foal of Group III winner Mywayorthehighway, who comes from the family of multiple Group I winners Assertive Lass, Assertive Lad and Reset.
Mywayorthehighway as a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock’s champion son Merchant Navy.
Park Avenue is one of eight Australian juvenile winners for Fastnet Rock this season, those winners including three stakes-winners – O’President, Acrobat and Sneaky Five.
Fastnet Rock stands at a fee of $165,000 this spring.
