Fastnet Rock Colt Impresses
Promising Peter Moody trained colt Monbazillac (3c Fastnet Rock x Best French, by Air de France) made a big impression when scoring easily at the ATC meeting at Wyong on Wednesday.
Three year-old colt Monbazillac broke his maiden last start at Benalla after overcoming trouble, the performance good enough for his trainer to try him in tougher company with happy results.
Ridden patiently by Peter Robl back off the pace from barrier one, Monbazillac made ground off the home turn before dashing through a split and surging clear to win the restricted three year-old event by a length and a half.
“He’s a very nice horse that hasn’t put it altogether just yet, but he’s progressing the right way,” said Robl.
A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase for the Cox/Mitchell Venture from the Vinery Stud draft, Monbazillac has two wins and a second from four starts and should be placed to advantage over the autumn carnival.
Monbazillac was bred by Gerry Harvey and is the second winner from stakes-winning Air de France (USA) mare Best French, a half-sister to stakes-winner Best Northern.
He is another bright prospect for champion sire Fastnet Rock, who has seven entries for the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
