Fastnet Rock Filly Wins $500,000 Inglis Banner
The $500,000 MVRC Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday was won by Sneaky Five (2f Fastnet Rock x Small Minds, by Canny Lad).
The most expensive horse in the race, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Sneaky Five produced a stunning turn of foot to zoom past her rivals to win by more than a length claiming a valuable black-type win on debut.
Sneaky Five was offered at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale by her breeder Mr Pan Sutong’s Goldin Farms and was snapped up by Rosemont Stud for $305,000.
She will now likely head to Sydney for the $1m Golden Gift at Rosehill in a fortnight.
Winning co-trainer Maher, who saddled up four runners in the race, described Sneaky Five as the least mature of his quartet in the race.
“The team have done a great job and the system is working well. I’m very proud,’’ Maher said.
“It’s great to win for Anthony Mithen and Nigel Austin and the Rosemont team.
“She gets most of her purchase price back today and she’s going to be lovely broodmare for them moving forward.’’
Sneaky Five is a half-sister to stakes-winner Beautiful Mind and is the third winner from Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Small Minds who has another yearling colt to follow by Fastnet Rock.
Sneaky Five is the 161st stakes-winner worldwide for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
