Fastnet Rules!

The Australian racing season for 2014/2015 has come to an end with Fastnet Rock crowned Champion Australian Sire by earnings and stakes-winners, his sire Danehill the Champion Australian Broodmare Sire and his sire sons Hinchinbrook and Rothesay the leading first season sires by earnings and winners respectively. It’s been a ground breaking year for Fastnet Rock with seasonal progeny earnings in Australia topping $10.3 million and 15 stakes-winners headed by Group I winners First Seal, Amicus and Magicool. First Seal and Amicus both trialled in promising fashion at Randwick on Friday morning and look poised for successful spring campaigns as four year-old mares. Aside from his success in Australia, Fastnet Rock has also sired Group I winners in the Northern Hemisphere courtesy of his star three year-old fillies Qualify (Epsom Oaks) and Diamondsandrubies (Pretty Polly Stakes). Three year-olds have also been the backbone of his success in Australia this season providing 54 of his winners and $4.7 million of his earnings. Turning 14 this year, Fastnet Rock won the title of Champion Australian Sire previously in 2011/2012, but is now at the very height of his powers. With more big crops of top quality youngsters coming through, Fastnet Rock may well be on the cusp of a period of dominance at the top of the Australian General Sires List.
