Galizani Wins Tatts Cup

Talented mare Galizani (5m Galileo x Zahani, by Zabeel) burst back to top form with a strong win in the Listed Tattersalls Cup over 2400 metres at Randwick on Saturday as a rank outsider. The John Thompson trained mare settled back in the field and finished off full of running to win by the best part of a length. “Things haven’t gone to plan this preparation but full credit to John. He changed her training when things weren’t working out and it has worked perfectly,” stable foreman Andre Rabbett said. Rabbett was reluctant to commit to any immediate plans for the daughter of Galileo but didn’t shirk the suggestion of a trip to Melbourne for spring riches. ”We’ll see how she pulls up but there are plenty of options for her,” he said. Winning rider Tim Bell said the five-year-old had plenty of ability but was a horse that "needed things to go her way”. “The sting out of the track probably helped her a bit,” Bell said. ”She quickened well off the hot tempo and showed her true colours today.” Purchased for $140,000 from the Kia Ora draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Galizani has won four of 15 starts earning $188,525. Galizani is the first foal of the well bred Zabeel mare Zahani, a daughter of Group I winning Danehill mare Danarani.
