Glamour Mares Join Coolmore Broodmare Band
The Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Thursday night brought together a stellar line up of mares with Tom Magnier purchasing three of the absolute gems of the sale to add to the stellar broodmare band at Coolmore Australia.
He secured the top lot in dual Group I winner She’s Extreme for $3.4million.
Trained by Anthony Cummings, the daughter of Extreme Choice won the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes at two and the Group I VRC Oaks at three.
Coolmore’s Tom Moore said She’s Extreme would likely be served by either Wootton Bassett or Home Affairs.
“She’s Extreme is a very rare offering in that it’s not often a filly can win a Group 1 at two and train on and win an Oaks, it puts herself in very rare company,’’ Moore said.
“She’s by a great stallion in Extreme Choice, she had everything that we look for in these elite mares and the type of mares that we come to the Chairman’s Sale to buy.
“If you look back over the past few years and the mares that we’ve identified here at this sale, we’ve had a huge amount of luck with them obviously highlighted by Samaready who was carrying Shinzo at the time…and Booker, an elite, fast Group 1-winning mare with a pedigree and her first two foals have netted $5.5 million for us.’’
Group I placed Zoustar mare C’Est Magique was snapped up by Magnier for $1.7million and will remain in work with a change of trainer.
A homebred for Neville Begg, C’Est Magique is a half-sister to Group I winning 2YO Written By and was previously trained by Grahame Begg, but will join the stable of Chris Waller.
“She’s a fabulous looking mare, one of our top picks of the sale so we are very happy to get her,” said Coolmore’s Colm Santry.
“She’s obviously very good as we saw with her second in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and is sound to race on, so we will put her back in work with Chris Waller and see what she can do.”
A Group winner at two and three by The Autumn Sun, Autumn Ballet was the third purchase for Magnier at $1.6million.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Autumn Ballet won the Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes on debut at two and then trained on at three to win the Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes beating top class fillies Estriella and Kimochi, who made $2.2million at this sale.
Autumn Ballet will head to Coolmore with an elite pedigree to back her up as her grand-dam O’Giselle is a sister to champion racehorse and sire Lonhro with the family producing this year’s Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Cylinder.
Her dam Grisi has been married to The Autumn Sun, so Autumn Ballet has a couple of full siblings in the pipeline. Unraced two year-old filly Ghaara was bought by Emirates Park for $1.2million at Inglis Easter and her yearling colt made $325,000 at Magic Millions this year when bought by Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock.
