Group III Win for Fastnet Filly

An exciting winner on debut at Wangaratta back in November, blue-blooded filly Jazz Song (3f Fastnet Rock x Absolut Glam, by Snowland) confirmed that potential when scoring a surprise win in the Group III MVRC Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night. The Mick Price trained filly was friendless with punters sent to the post at odds of $51, but belied the lack of support to charge home and win the 1200 metre sprint brilliantly by a long neck with Craig Newitt in the saddle. Price was intending to take an easier option and start Jazz Song in a fillies race next Wednesday at Sandown Park, but following a sparkling track gallop on Tuesday Newitt recommended to Price that he should take a chance in the tougher stakes race. "She worked super on Tuesday and I said to Mick that it was worth putting her in here because if she could snag a place it would be great for her value.” Newitt said. "I was a bit off them at the turn, but when I went for her she went whoosh and it was a big win.” Bred by SF Bloodstock and consigned to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Willow Park Stud, Jazz Song was bought for $625,000 by James Bester Bloodstock/Demi O’Byrne and runs for Coolmore and partners. She has won two of three starts and a tick over $80,000 in prizemoney, but with a Group III victory on the resume has proven her worth and given the indication of better things to come.. Jazz Song is the first foal of Group I Tatts Winter Stakes winner Absolut Glam, who was bought for $950,000 at the 2010 Inglis Broodmare Sale when in foal to Fastnet Rock with Jazz Song the result. Sadly, Absolut Glam lost a colt by Fastnet Rock last spring, but is now back in foal to the champion sire. Jazz Song is the 55th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock and is his 11th in Australia this season.
