Group One Goals for Fastnet Filly
Brilliant filly Lumosty (3f Fastnet Rock x Luminous Eyes, by Bachelor Duke) is headed to Brisbane in top form after scoring an utterly dominant win in the Listed VRC Straight Six at Flemington Saturday beating older sprinters.
A Group II winner last spring over 1600 metres, Lumosty was sent to the paddock after finishing out of a place in the Group I VRC Oaks with trainer Robert Smerdon electing to give her a good break and focus on sprinting for the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
An easy winner when resuming from a spell at Flemington on May 9, Lumosty looked even better again when racing away to win as she pleased in this 1200 metre sprint with part-owner Phil Sly confirming Brisbane is next on the agenda.
“She’ll go to Brisbane now for the Stradbroke and then for the Tatts Tiara,” he said.
A $185,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Flemington Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Lumosty runs for Phil Sly and Katsumi Yoshida, who enjoyed much success with another star daughter of Fastnet Rock in Mosheen, who won four Group I events including the VRC Oaks by nine lengths.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Lumosty has the impressive record of four wins and three placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $378,000.
She is the first foal of Irish Group III winner Luminous Eyes (IRE), who comes from the family of champion racehorse Pilsudski and Group I winners Youmzain and Creachadoir.
Luminous Eyes has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock and is due to foal again to the champion sire this spring.
Fastnet Rock had a winning double at Flemington with the smart Mark Kavanagh trained Magicool (3g Fastnet Rock x Perfect Truth, by Galileo) scoring over 2000 metres.
