Group Three Win for The Diamond One
Improving mare The Diamond One (4m Tale of the Cat x The Jewel, by O’Reilly) has gone from strength to strength this preparation turning in a career best performance to win the Group III White Robe Lodge Handicap at Wingatui in New Zealand on the weekend.
Prepared by Steve Anderton, The Diamond One was a last start winner in Listed company and stepped it up a notch again for this assignment to win the 1600 metre feature by half a length.
Fourth in the Group I New Zealand Thousand Guineas as a three year-old, the Diamond One has always shown above average ability and has the overall record of five wins and five placings from 11 starts with prizemoney nearing $120,000.
Retained to race, The Diamond One is a half-sister to stakes-placed The Glitzy One and is the best of two winners for dual Group I winning O’Reilly mare The Jewel, who comes from the family of numerous Group I winners including The Phantom and The Phantom Chance.
